2. Why teach WH Questions using scenes?

 

Teaching WH Questions is a challenging task for both the teacher and the student. That’s Why we offer a variety of free resources and tools to help make it easier.

This specific resource teaches WH Questions using Scenes with multiple people doing different activities in order to:

  • Teach your child to focus on both verbal and nonverbal cues.
  • Build observation and analytical skills.
  • Help improve his comprehension, listening, and/or reading skills.
  • Develop his oral language and vocabulary.

 

3. How to teach your child WH Questions using Scenes?

 

This activity includes 30 picture scenes with a total of 232 questions to practice WH Questions with your child or student by following these steps:

  • print the file and cut the pages into halves.
  • paste the picture with the related questions back to back and laminate them so that the picture is on one side and questions on the other side.

In order to use this free resource that teaches WH Questions to children with Autism or Speech delay using Scenes:

1. Start by choosing 15 scenes with topics that your child can relate to.

2. Then choose one type of WH Questions (such as What Questions) and ask only that type of WH Questions from the questions on the back of the scene.

3. Once your child successfully answers that question type on all 15 scenes, you can move to the next question type (such as Who) until he can answer all of them individually (What, Who, Where, When, Why, How).

4. Then choose two types of WH Questions (such as What and Who questions) and ask only those two from the questions on the back of the scene.

5. Once mastered, choose another WH Question to work on and ask all three together (such as What, Who, and Where)

6. Keep adding new WH Questions until you ask all of them together.

By using this procedure, you can successfully teach your child to answer multiple WH Questions at once in less time and with less frustration.
